2012 Enduro Rules Passed

1) A Sweep Crew MUST be used at every event. Rider safety is our number #1 concern.

2) There will be 3 Rider Reps, each carrying a vote on rule proposals and elections. There will be a rider rep for each of the 3 primary class categories (A, B, C/Masters/Women). Scott Allen is our "A-Class" Rider Rep. We will elect the other two Rider Reps at the banquet in January (details to follow regarding nominees, ballots, and voting method).

3) There will be a new C 50+ class. This rule proposal was supported by about 10 FES and/or trail riders just itching to ride the Sunday event!

11/04/11 Turkey Creek row assignments are posted, and we have another update from Jim Garber:

We had a sprinkle of rain today that didn’t even require windshield wipers. We had hail and 1/10” rain last Saturday while we were taking mileage. About a week before that we had 1/4” rain.

It isn’t going to be dusty, but the trails are in great shape! It's calling for sun Friday and Saturday, and cloudy but no rain on Sunday.

11/01/11 Turkey Creek update from Jim Garber of Riders M/C:

» We took mileage Saturday and Sunday. Ground miles are just over 80 miles. There will be 5 timed sections: 13.6, 10, 13.6, 4.4, & 11.6. C class, Women, and Masters will not ride the last section.

» Restart format, but not necessarily "no time keeping equipment needed" - although we are sure that no one can burn any of the out-checks.

» Gas available for everyone is at the start/parking area after the first two checks. There are 46 miles after gas available, so another gas available for the B, A & AA will be available. Probably will not be a gas truck.

»The club is working hard to make it an enjoyable event. We will not be running the low woods/swamp area near the start area.

»There are quite a few pre-entries both the Family Enduro on Saturday and the Sunday event. The Family Enduro loop is approximately 14 miles, run once for A, B, and C classes, and three times for the rest.

»The club had to obtain permission from 95 land owners (all private property), so please thank them if you see them and respect their land. We cannot do this without them. Steve Ricketts is the Trail Boss again this year.

09/08/11 Update on the Grizzly:

Approximately 70 ground miles, with one gas stop in the middle. Bring a second can for your pit crew if you think you'll need it. All on private land, it'll be about 80% virgin trail. Some tight and technical, some fast and free-flowing.

Weather looks to be sunny, dry, and mid-seventies. Don't forget to stop by Mr. Bill's IGA Market on your way through Fairview to stock up on groceries and gas (the Trailboss would much appreciate it!).

08/15/11 Update from the club:

The Knuckle Buster Riders are excited to offer you lots of new trail this year. You should look forward to NO dust and NO whoops. We have two new sections that offers a great variety of trail and several of the older sections have been rerouted. All trail has been brushed to keep face slappers to a minimum. We have added an AA-A-B section. C, Masters, and Womens classes will end early.

There will be a gas trailer available. For the AA-A-B riders there is a gas stop and a gas available. The C riders stop at gas available.

There will be no tech inspection, but you are required to be street legal.

Anyone choosing to come in early for camping is welcome. Land owner requests there are no campfires. Staging is in the same location as last year. N43 14.040 W 85 15.780

Sunday after the race a gracious land owner, Kosten’s Farms, is serving BBQ Pork and Hotdogs to everyone. And if that wasn't enough, there's a Danish Festival in Greenville the same weekend!

08/08/11 A note from Mike Maurer, Family Enduro Series Chairman:

The Family Enduro Series is almost complete - Only one race to go, but there are still many opportunities to spend time with your enduro friends. There are two District enduros coming up: Knuckle Buster (Greenville, MI - August 21st), and The Grizzly (Fairview, MI - September 11). I would like to encourage the FES participants to help out at these events. Many of the District riders come to the family enduros to help, and we can return the favor.

I will be at both events and plan to work a check. If you can make it, let me know. Any FES participant or family member who can help out in August or September will get a special invitation to a trail ride in October.

I know school is about to start, but do not wait until the Turkey Gobbler in November to see your enduro friends again.

08/02/11 Update from the club on the White Trash Enduro:

If you like new virgin trail then don't miss this event. Tight technical trail, with some fast nice flowing stuff mixed in. There are some nice hills for your entertainment as well. You won't be disappointed. It will be a restart format, so tell all your haresramble buddies to come and race. An ORV sticker is all that's required. Huge field for camping. Same location as the Baby Bear the past 2 years. It'll be like the Baby Bear on steroids.

07/11/11 Jack Pine Update from the Club

We are ready to go! Section lengths are 9-5-9-7-5-5. We actually took some mileage out because of severe dust/safety issues, but trust us - you will get a workout! About 70 ground miles and it will be demanding. Both gas stops have no more than 30 miles in-between, and they are along the route. We will have gas trailers, but you will need 2 cans.

Last year we had a lot of rain before the event; this year we need some bad. Looks like there was some rain today.

We have gas and spectator maps made up to handout at sign-up. Spaghetti dinner Saturday night 5-7 PM. Large primitive camping field - NO CAMP FIRES! There is a store / gas station / restaurant located at the start location.

The Pine Cone Family Enduro is the Saturday before the National, and located on the Lansing Motorcycle Club grounds. It's going to be a good one - we hope you like it! See ya all next weekend!!

Statement from the club:

The Grand Kankakee Trail Riders would like to thank all those that came out for a really great event. Trails were marked well and the ground conditions were ideal. After having a club meeting and going over all the scores, it was found that a number of scores where entered incorrectly, and we have changed them. The trophies will stand as passed out. Your points will be figured on the new final scores as posted to MotoTally. There was some concern over the third loop being run @ 24mph, so we have decided to keep the age cut-off the same, but lower the 3rd loop speed to 18mph.

First loop will be @ 12mph, Second loop @ 18mph, and Third loop @ 18mph

04/09/11 Update from the club on the Sand Booger and Sand Goblin events:

One weekend before the Sand Goblin / Booger weekend and work on the trails is almost complete. The weather has been dry and cool. A little rain in this weeks forecast will only help firm up the trail.

The Family Enduro this year is a 10.5 mile course with very little field track. We will run 3 loops for the 12yr old & up classes, and 2 loops for the younger kids @ 12mph, 18mph, & 24mph.

The Sunday event should be a true test of speed and endurance (with a few fun surprises!). The restart course is approximately 75 ground miles, and will have 7 test sections (8mi, 4mi, 11mi, 5.5mi, 11.5mi, 9mi, and 3.5mi) - all run @ 30mph.

There will be a gas available @ 24 miles out on the trail, a gas stop @ the pits @ 38 miles, and another gas available @ the pits @ 62 miles.

03/22/11 With less than a month before the Roselawn events, GKTR club members and volunteers have been taking advantage of the recent nice weather to get out and work on trail. Arrowing is coming along nicely; the course will be 2 separate loops with low road miles, and gas at the pits between loops.

The club has been putting in lots of time on the Family Enduro section to make it a fun course for all ages. They will be using a restart format this year for the adult race, but the Family Enduro will still be a traditional timekeeping format.

Although the club will be running a restart format for the Sunday event, ALL bikes will need to have headlight and tail light to look street legal. FLAT number plates on the front will NOT be allowed to start. They will be using state highways, and need everyone to look street legal.

02/16/11 Join District 14 or renew your membership NOW! Each year there are riders who miss out on earning event points because they didn't get their D14 membership renewed on-time. Don't be that guy (or gal)!

Click on the application form link, fill it out, and mail it in while the snow is still on the ground. Waiting until Roselawn to do this just creates more work for the sign-up crew and your Points Keeper. THANK YOU!
