07/20/10 Jack Pine National Update:

1) The event is sold out - 525 riders! There is a waiting list for the few spots that *may* become available due to no-shows.

2) There will be 2 gas stops and 2 gas trailers (no gas at staging), so bring 2 gas cans.

3) KTM North America will provide a spaghetti dinner Saturday night. Dinner hours are from 4:30-6:30pm, with a minimum $5 donation to go to the United Methodist Women's Group in Moorestown for their food pantry and community needs.

4) The first test section will be an "A-only" section. All other riders will start out the event with about 6-miles of an untimed section consisting of some nice open trails. "B" riders will ride the last test section along with the "A" riders, as the "C" riders wave as they go by or stop and watch.

07/12/10 Update from Mike Maurer on the Grapevine Family Enduro being held in Lawton, MI on Saturday, July 17, 2010:

We mileaged the event on Sunday and it's going to be a fun ride. Three loops of a 10 mile section - all on private property, and no road sections. Rev. Ron and Dennis have done a great job of designing a fun course for all ages. Noise management will be strict. In some cases you will be riding behind a home or along someone's lawn. If you are too loud, you cannot ride. This event will be worth the drive to a Michigan enduro south of interstate I-94.

06/08/10 Hope to see you at the Mini Moose / Loose Moose this weekend... Weather is looking good, with just enough rain leading up to the event to keep the dust down.

The club has laid out a fun, unique, and challenging course that you won't find at any other D14 enduro event. And while most men his age are content getting their AARP discount on a cup of coffee at McDonald's, rumor has it that Dick "8x" Burleson is looking to overall the event this year. 06/02/10 Update from Jeff "Magoo" Magowan on the Loose Moose / Mini Moose enduros:

Our Mini Moose trail is looking spectacular this year -- Should be tons of FUN for all the kids. It is a sweet, flowing trail! No problem for any size bike, even 50's!

The Loose Moose will be a great race this year! Since we don't have to use the NEPG Rules this year, we are going to make this year's race a lot of fun... Yes, it will be a "timekeeper!" Don't worry, no games, just a good old fashioned "carry your points" event.

The good news is that it will not be as long as in past years. Because we are fortunate to be able to use all trail for our event (no road sections!), we shortened the course so that it's not so overwhelming. Don't mistake that for "easier!" The riders will still get their money's worth -- with our almost famous Moon Rocks trail and other challenging trail sections. We've also lengthened our Resets and Gas Stop to give the riders an extra break.

We've been very dry up here this spring, but recent rains have helped to knock the dust back down without making it slippery. So conditions are looking great!

04/29/10 We are going to try something new this season and post a rider survey after each D14 enduro.

04/11/10 The Sand Goblin will include two separate loops, each around 36 miles each. Loop 1 will be some of the old trail, along with a lot of new land and new trail. At the end of loop 1 you will be back at the staging area for gas and a 30 minute break. Loop 2 will be all new, with just a short 3 mile section the club has used before.

The hill climbs will be the notable difference on the second loop. The club has about four really good hill climbs, and no one will think they are riding the typical Sand Goblin course. One club member has stated that this is absolutely the best course they've ever laid out, and it will be a lot of fun to ride for everyone. There are nearly 100 pre-entries for the event, and the club expects the large turnout they typically get.

Weather-wise, it is still very dry in the area, but there's some rain in the forecast for late next week. There will be really only one ditch crossing you'll have to watch out for, and most of the second loop is run through some pretty sandy soil that absorbs water quickly.

Reminder: You need to be street-legal to ride the Sand Goblin, so please at least "look" the part.

04/08/10 Here is the latest update from Mike Maurer on the Arbor Day Enduro & Tree Planting:

The new location is working out very well. The weather has cooperated to allow us to work with the DNR to establish a new route. The new staging area will be at the corner of Kalkaska Rd. and M-72 on the west side of town.

The course will be 12 miles long and will consist of a mixture of two tracks and enduro trail. With a noon key time, we are planning two loops and it should take a few hours to complete. We will have a couple of spectator spots that will be easy to locate and the gas stop will be back at the staging area.

One of the reasons that we moved the starting location closer to town was so the participants could also enjoy the Trout Festival activities - Carnival, vintage bike show, and the fireworks show to name just a few. Please check out the website for other Trout Festival activities.

The deadline to pre-enter for the Arbor Day Enduro is April 19th. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Maurer at (517) 655-5505.

Also, don't forget the Arbor Day Tree Planting on Sunday - Same location as the enduro (Kalkaska Fairgrounds). This 1-day act of giving back goes a long way in providing us additional land to ride!

03/31/10 Here is the latest news from the club on the Sand Booger and Sand Goblin enduro events:

- So far it's been dry and dusty in the Roselawn area... If they get a few inches of rain each week over the next couple weeks, it will be perfect.

- The club has access to a few hundred more acres of new land, so there will be some new event trail with a fair amount of elevation changes.

- The club also has access to some land that has not been used in a few years, and are laying out virgin trail in this section as well.

- This years event will be a timed event with secret checks, and will also be using public roads, so bikes will need to be as street legal as you can get them. Anyone without a headlight and tail light will not be allowed to start the event.

- The club will be running 2 different loops with gas stop at the start, so gas crews will not be needed. The only part of the course run twice will be the grass / bean field section right at the start of both loops, which is also a great place to spectate.

Looks to be another great enduro! Pre-entry for these events is still available, so get yours in the mail and postmarked by April 8th!

02/08/10 After a review of the D14 Enduro 2010 Supplemental Rules, the AMA has requested that we remove two rules that conflict with existing AMA rules:

Rule 2.b - Sound Limits. There was some conflict and redundancy with the AMA rule on sound limits (as well as some changes coming in 2011), so moving forward we will just defer to the AMA rule book for sound limits.

Rule 4.f.vi - 20% Rule for Working an Event. This conflicts with the rule found in Chapter 2, Section 2.3, item C-2 of the 2010 AMA Rule Book.

- Rule #2: C-Rider Advancement (50%)
- Rule #20: Tie Breaker Logic (50%)

These are the rule topics that will be formalized into a rule proposal. Rules Discussion
Forum
11/29/09 We've had a lot of good input and discussion regarding rule proposals. Now it's time to narrow it down to those rule topics that you feel are important enough to warrant an official rule proposal at the annual district meeting. The meeting is Saturday, December 5th, so we need to finalize any rule proposals that should be presented, including nailing down the details and wording.

To help facilitate this, there is a new poll in the Rules Discussion Forum. Using this poll, please indicate the rule topics that you feel should be formalized into a proposal. The intent is to take a subset of the rule topics discussed to-date, and only present those that are clearly important to the majority of those riders participating in the discussion.

The poll will be closed Tuesday, December 1st, at 11pm. Wednesday through Friday will then be used to get consensus on the details and wording for each rule proposal.

11/17/09 To all you fast B riders out there... There is a known issue with the enduro advancement points as reported on the AMA web site. A number of riders are missing advancement points for certain events. The AMA is aware of the problem, and I have been working with them for the past several weeks in supplying data for D14 enduro events held over the past 3 years. Unfortunately, the AMA does not have an estimate as to when it will be corrected.

In the meantime, I'll be calculating advancement points for D14 members so that these riders will at least know if they will be advanced in 2010. You can also check the AMA web site yourself for point totals. If you have at least 100 points, you will be advanced (although the total points value may not include all points earned).

*** TURKEY GOBBLER FAMILY ENDURO CANCELED ***

While the Turkey Gobbler course was looking OK just a few hours ago, the rain has increased in intensity, and by all accounts it will continue to fall on and off over the next 12+ hours. With the type of soil they have down in Indiana, the water doesn't soak into the ground, and it gets very greasy (remember Matthews FES in '08?).

In addition, there are several ditch crossings that are filling up with water, and considering the safety and enjoyment of the riders, the club feels that many of them will be impassable by the little bikes. They already have a number of bridges in place, but don't have the time or daylight left to construct more before Saturday morning. The club will also be very busy on Saturday inspecting and shoring up the Sunday course.

The skies should be dry for both Saturday and Sunday, and the course for the big bikes should be fine, but likely muddy in spots.

You can be sure that this was an extremely hard decision for the club to make, especially considering the hundreds of man-hours that went into the event by many volunteers. Show your support by coming on down and riding Sunday's event!

The Turkey Gobbler FES is ON!

Got word from the club today... As of now they've received only .1" of rain (that's point one, not 1"!), but more rain is in the forecast. It will likely be muddy on Saturday, so come prepared to endure!

In the event that they get heavy rain Friday evening / early Saturday, it is still a possibility that it may get canceled.

If in doubt, call the club before making the drive.

10/29/09 Update on the Turkey Creek enduros:

The club rode the family enduro trail Thursday morning, and everything looks good. They think they will ride 2 loops as long as they don't get the rain that is forecasted on Friday. If they get a lot of rain they will have to make a decision on whether to cancel the family enduro or not. They don't want to run the kids through the mud holes. The club will make a final decision by Friday at Noon... Hopefully that's not too late for some people.

Sunday's event is still on - regardless of the weather (the forecast is "Mostly Sunny)"! Speaking of Sunday's event, they're looking at around 70 ground miles. Route sheets will be available at the event.

Don't forget that there will be a swap meet on Saturday after the Family Enduro, and Halloween Trick or Treating for the kids.

10/02/09 Muddobber National Enduro Update #2 - From Brent Floyd:

First off, this year’s Upland Enduro actually starts in Matthews, Indiana. And if you are coming over from Illinois use highway 26 East of Interstate 69 to get there as the road South of Upland is closed. So don’t go to Upland and try to come South to get to Matthews. Just look at a map, it will make sense.

The course really worked out the way we wanted it to. Very little road, in fact of the 65.5 miles, just 7.5 is road. But don’t worry, the pause’s are more than adequate to rest between sections. In fact, unless the weather just turns ugly Sunday (Not supposed to), most will find this course to be very enjoyable.

Section lengths are in round numbers and in order, 8, 6, 6, Gas, 12, 9, 11. Gas is at the start (Covered Bridge) and I think one of the Churches in town will be serving food. By the way, and this is an inside secret, the gas station in Matthews has the best tenderloins you can find. And you can ride your bike uptown to get one. I would recommend lights to do it, but you don’t need lights to ride the race. KTM demo rides from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. I know this is probably repetitive, but C riders only have to ride the first 4 sections, B riders the first 5 but if you get to that point and want to ride more, feel free to ride the A, AA section. Actually section 5 and 6 are really fun, fast and flowing and pretty smooth. Just let the A, AA guys have the right away, but what better place to watch the National Championship than on the trail that will decide the Championship. Also, pay attention in the River crossings. They are not deep at all, matter of fact the River is way down. But someone always gets to thinking they can ride water like Jesus walked on water, and then they hit the rock that drowns them out. Don’t be that guy, use your head. Riders will get to practice the river just 100 feet after the start of the race, so be warned. Hope to see everyone there Saturday or Sunday.

09/26/09 The Riders M/C Turkey Gobbler Family Enduro falls on Halloween this year, and the club would like to have something special for all the kids that are staying Saturday night after the event.

They are asking that everyone who is staying over on Saturday evening decorate their campsite with a Halloween theme, and then they'll have a Trick or Treat event for the kids who might otherwise miss out on it at home.

Right after the trophies are handed out, have the kids dress up in their Halloween costumes, and then go around to each campsite Trick or Treating. So please bring some candy along (normal rules apply) to hand out, and it can be something special for all the kids - young and old! Note: Decorations should be appropriate for youngsters!

09/26/09 AdrenalineVision has been producing national enduro race highlight clips all season, and the Championship DVD is on it's way. And now there is an unprecedented subscription service they're offering to all the racers. For the first time ever, there is now a way for everyone who competed in a National Enduro to see *your* video clips. Over 13 hours of National Enduro raw content is online now - if you were there, it's very likely they have it on video.

By subscribing to AdrenalineVision you'll receive ad-free access to hours and hours of video including full-length highlight videos. All of the videos are shot and mastered in High Def, and streamed to you online.

The videos are published in big 640 x 360 video players and encoded using H.264 codec - that means expanding to full screen is sweet!

If they shot it, it's here. Not just highlight videos, but all the racing action they shoot is here - from the Pros to the C Class.

And of course the videos are available 7x24, enjoy them when ever you have some time to sit back and enjoy all the great racing action. Just how much video is there? As much as 2 hours of video per event!

08/20/09 Here's the latest update from Mike Maurer on the Baby Bear Family enduro :

Round #8 of the Family Enduro Series is coming together very nicely. You could say the Baby Bear is coming out of hibernation.

The White Trash MC is providing support for this event and the people of Fairview have spearheaded this effort. Many of the off-road riders in the area have spent a lot of time in the woods marking trail. The local businesses are also excited about this event. They are planning a "lemonade stand" at one of the resets. There was also an article in the local paper on this event and series. Good stuff!

We spent this past weekend arrowing, trimming, and mileaging the event. There is 20 miles of riding - mostly in the woods, but the sections are short. We will be using revised enduro rules - ONLY two miles between each check. The route sheet will be finalized next weekend. We are planning an 18 mph and 12 mph loop.

We can ALWAYS use helpers. We need check crews, road crossing guards, pre and sweep riders. If you have ridden enduros, but never worked on a check crew, I would strongly encourage you to help on this event. We will have experienced check captains in each crew who can teach a "rookie" what to do at a check. If you are interested in pre or sweep riding, you will be required to help on the event this next weekend or be at the staging area on Friday before the event.

The staging area is just outside of Fairview (north of Mio) and there is plenty of primitive camping available. Part of the Family Enduro experience is camping with our friends.

Given a good turnout and success of this FES event, there is a lot of potential to have a Sunday enduro in this area next year... Lots of private property and supportive land owners!

I hope everyone can make it for one last ride before the kids go back to school. If you have questions, please give me a call.

07/31/09 Mini / Loose Moose update from the club:

Loose Moose: Things are shaping up great! Recent rain will help keep the dust away. Trail is coming together nicely. Mileage will be done this weekend, looks like about 44 miles for the C Riders -- about the same as last year. We got lots of positive feedback about the C course last year, so this year is similar. B riders will get about another 12 miles. They'll be riding a section they haven't been on in a while. We worked really hard to put together a NICE and FUN section. The A riders will have a final 8-9 mile test that will challenge them!

We are super excited to be hosting a National again, and think this year is going to be a great event!

Mini Moose: Mini Moose should be awesome this year! NEPG is providing their scoring system for the event. Riders names and scores will be displayed on the Big Screen, just like the pros! And KTM is organizing a meet and greet for the kids with Mike Lafferty, Russell Bobbitt and other pros! We're thrilled that NEPG and KTM are providing such awesome support for this event! The trail will consist of a lot of new trail. We purchased a rough-cut mower to prepare the trail, and it works awesome. We'll have lots of well prepared, flowing trail for the Mini Moose!

From the club...

We have been putting up arrows for the last 3 week in beautiful 70 degree weather. Two old sections have been converted to brand new virgin cut trail.

Bridge built in the start location to eliminate any chance of Scott Hoffman breaking last year’s jerry -rigged bridge and causing high heart rates.

We will be using Re-Start Format for Saturday’s event (no computer, headlight or taillight needed); bring your motocross buddies.

We will be using MotoTally both days to quickly score riders.

We will not have pre-sign up this year, sorry. BUT have your buddy in line with you and you can ride on the same minute.

05/18/09 Unfortunately, the Mosquito Classic and Baby Buzzard enduros have been canceled. Here is the message from the club:

Hi Guys,

For many reason, (Road Construction on Harrison Ave, sickness within the Heber family, Time constraints, loss of property, and many other smaller details) we will be unable to promote a successful Enduro this year. We regret to inform all of you that we will NOT be putting on a family event or an adult event which had been scheduled for July 11th and 12th. Please remove us from the schedule and pass the information along to all interested parties. We have enjoyed our run of 16 years sponsors events. The motorcycle community is one of the greatest that we've had the chance to work with. Yet for many reasons, we will essentially be done with events for many years. Perhaps we will have the opportunity to return in the distant future. Once again, thanks for the fun, but until further notice we will no longer be putting on events.

Sincerely,
Jamie Lipovsky

04/21/09 Just a reminder that the FES Arbor Day Enduro is being held in Kalkaska, MI this Saturday, 4/25, with tree planting on Sunday, 4/26. The weather is looking to be spectacular for a ride in the woods with your kids! There are only little patches of snow left, and the recent melting has left the sandy ground nice and moist.

Recommended route to staging area: From the west, take County Road 612 east and turn right (south) onto Blue Lake Road. From the east, take County Road 612 west (exit #264 off I-75) and turn left (south) onto Blue Lake Road. Once on Blue Lake Road, follow signs to the staging area. Click for Map

Note: Blue Lake Road is unpaved and can be a rough ride - you do not want to drive it for 5-6 miles coming from M-72 to the staging area.

04/09/09 The Grand Kankakee Trail Riders event for April 19th is asking ALL spectators and support crews to please not park on roads or tie up traffic on any of the roads. They had a little bit of a hard time with obtaining the road use permit this year and have been warned that if there is any kind of trouble on the roads this year the permit will not be issued again. This is not just for the April race, but will affect the summer Hill & Gully race as well. The club will have special free territory flags so riders will be able to reset at all the resets and just ride down the roads at the posted speed, and turn off the roads without the worries of a check. This is to keep even the riders off the roads. PLEASE lets all work together to keep this and future events alive alive in this area.

The club has also requested that ALL bikes have headlights and taillights mounted. They do not want to see flashlights, bicycle lights, small number plate lights, etc. This is to ensure that all bikes appear to be "legal" and to ensure no problems on the roads. Please comply with this request so we can continue to have enduros in this area; we can't afford to lose anymore enduros!
